Showbrassband Thalita has been established at April 11th 1964. The band started out as a youth band, at the beginning girls-only, and during shows dressed in Scottish skirts. The name Thalita has been chosen because of the Latin meaning, witch is ‘girl'. Later on, boys too were allowed to the band, but the name Thalita stayed.

One moment, a few ladies made a new uniform and so, Thalita got back on the street with her white Busby, blue coat and white pair of trousers or skirt. A green one has replaced the blue jacket later. Also new instruments were bought and that's how Thalita became a real “drum band”. At this moment, Thalita started to participate in contests as Contest Schiedam and Vianen. Here, Thalita won first prices. In the mean time, the band grew to 35 members, and so the time came, new instruments and uniforms had to be bought. This time, to make the uniform, a tailor was hired, and the result of this was the first familiar red/black coloured uniform.

Thalita participated in Bonds contest Barendrecht and with a first price; Thalita was placed in the second division.
In search of a personal music style, in 1980 the English style was chosen, and still maintained. In 1985, the uniform too was adjusted to the music style so that it was identical to that of the English Guards.
Thalita changed into a Showbrassband and started to perform shows at tattoos. An English gala show and a Marine show, performed in a white uniform, identical to the tropical uniform of the Dutch Marine Corps. This white uniform showed to full advantage at evening-tattoos and on hot summer days. For example our long term stays at the French seaside resort Nice. Since 1984, Thalita has participated in the “Carnaval de Cote d'Azur” for four times
As time went by, the anniversary year, 1989, came closer and this was celebrated with an anniversary concert, in cooperation with the steel band of the Dutch Marine Corps. In 1991, the present chairman (since 1986) Bart Beun joined Thalita to instruct the drummers and to be in charge of the show exercises. Since 1995, Richard Vrijhoef provides the instruction of the brass players.

In guidance of these two instructors, a lot of work was done and so, at Bonds contest Breda in 1998, Thalita got the highest score.
Now, Thalita is much seen at home and abroad, and in 1998 and 2001 she provided successful New Year concerts.
